This page contains information especially for service providers (including interpreters) concerning the District Court of Douglas County, Kansas.

The District Court makes use of contractors to perform various services as needed. Following is information that may be of help to individuals wanting to provide such services.

Interpreters

The court welcomes individuals who wish to serve as interpreters, particularly those who can interpret American Sign English and Spanish. Those wanting to work as contract interpreters need to take the following steps:

1. Read the court's Interpreter Guidelines (PDF format).
2. Read the court's Interpreter Payment Policy (PDF format).
3. Those who feel they qualify and are interested after reading the items in steps 1 and 2 are asked to print out and complete the Interpreter Confirmation (PDF format).
4. Mail or bring the following items to the Court Administrator, 111 E. 11th St., Lawrence, KS 66044:
    a) Signed Interpreter Confirmation
    b) Current resume, including references

After the items in step 4 have been received, the Court Administrator may contact you to discuss your qualifications and court procedures.

ADSAP Providers

Individuals or agencies that want to be certified as Alcohol and Drug Safety Action Program (ADSAP) providers need to read the following:

1. Amended Administrative Order No. 11-13
2. Kansas Legislature - Statute KSA 8-1008(a,b)

Qualified parties then need to send a letter to Chief Judge Robert Fairchild, Douglas County District Court, 111 E. 11th St., Lawrence, KS 66044, in which they document how their program will meet the order's requirements. They need to include copies of reports that they have completed for other courts as well as names of references.

Upon receipt of such a letter, the chief judge will consider the application and confer with his colleagues. If the application is approved, the judge will send the applicant a letter of agreement, which the applicant needs to read and sign if it is acceptable.
